INDIANAPOLIS — As we sit back and watch as the best players and plays of 2011 are celebrated and the best players of all time are honored on the Saturday night before the Super Bowl here in Indy, we receive a cold reminder that the NFL is a business.

About 24 hours before the kick off to Super Bowl XLVI, the Patriots have released Tiquan Underwood.

The wide receiver’s roster spot will be filled by practice squad defensive lineman Alex Silvestro .

That’s rough. You wonder if the team will immediately sign Underwood to the practice squad and ensure he’ll be in attendance at Lucas Oil Stadium. He’ll also definitely get a ring if they win, but that’s still gotta be a tough pill to swallow. Underwood was so fired up for the Super Bowl that he had the team’s logo shaved into his head.

On the bright side, this means Chad Ochocinco will probably be active tomorrow night.

To his credit, Underwood is handling New England’s decision well, tweeting that it’ll serve as motivation. He also wished the franchise well in its pursuit of a championship tomorrow.
