The best way to ensure that as a fan you’re happy at the end of any season in any sport is to like every team equally at first, and then when the teams that could seriously contend for a championship become clear, pick one and yell their name really loudly to anyone who will listen.

Arm flailing helps too, and knowing the name of at least one prominent player on your chosen team is usually a good idea. This is the classic definition of the bandwagon fan, and we’ve all met a few and have had to resist the strong desire to douse them with table condiments.

Generally they’re harmless, though, and bandwagoners just want to party with everyone else. That was the case with Samantha DeFalco. You don’t recognize that name, but surely you remember her as the blond girl who really wanted to see Mark Sanchez at the Giants’ Super Bowl parade down the Canyon of Heroes earlier this week.

She forgot that whole bit about knowing at least one player on your team of choice, and today she explained herself to NBC 4 in New York.

You just watched the ballad of the female bandwagon fan. We’ll repeat Samantha’s money quote in bold and all caps:

“IT WAS JUST PURE FUN. WE’RE NOT REALLY HUGE FANS OF ANYONE. WE LIKE EVERY TEAM OF EVERY SPORT.”

Thanks, Off The Bench
