Even though he didn’t make a seven-minute video in which he lists his 27 nicknames and challenges the world to a showdown, Calvin Johnson has beaten Cam Newton to become the latest NFL player viciously cursed honored to grace the cover of a Madden game.

Johnson advanced to the final of the March Madness-style bracket that started with 63 players before beating Newton, getting 52 percent of the 651,736 votes. He will now do his best to avoid morphing into Peyton Hillis and becoming a colossal failure.

The last Lion to be on the cover was Barry Sanders back in 1999 when he stood beside John Madden himself. Sanders retired after that season, which gave birth to the Madden curse.
