When I first watched the video below late last night, I assumed it was a dream, which was a reasonable thought since motor skills were difficult after The Score’s annual summer party. Taking shots every hour on the hour is a tradition among a few of us at company parties, and eventually that turns into every 15 minutes, at which point I’m promptly reminded that I’m an old, decaying man.
But on a normal night/very early morning this would still be confusing. What you’re seeing first is apparent rising star Ricki Lander, the 31-year-old actress who’s becoming known in Boston as one of Robert Kraft’s bestest best friends after she attended a Celtics game with the Patriots owner. Lander has had mostly minor cookie cutter roles in shows like CSI and True Blood in which she’s played anonymous hot women, and characters whose sole function is to be really, really ridiculously good looking. It’s challenging stuff.
She auditioned for the role of “Mary Elena,” and as Barstool Sports Boston tells us, that’s for an upcoming comedy called “The Internship” starring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn. The IMDB page doesn’t show whether or not Lander was chosen for the part, but here’s the brief synopsis:
Two recently laid-off men in their forties, try to make it as interns at a successful Internet company where their managers are in their twenties.
Compelling, and rich. The first few seconds are a normal audition, but then Kraft appears, and begins hitting on Lander’s character. Or at least that’s the illusion we’re supposed to believe since this is acting, and two people are playing out a story. But in reality all we’re seeing is an old man hitting on some blond in a bikini. I see nothing wrong with this.
The Internet company is Yahoo!, which we know because Kraft reads the lines of a Yahoo! executive who then punches out some douchebag while dropping some well place expletives. Slowly, he’s turning Lander into an Oscar candidate.
