Ryan Mathews headlines the late-game actives as he returns from a broken clavicle. Mathews figures to be a feature back this year as Mike Tolbert will no longer be leaching his touchdowns.
Mathews has the reputation of being somewhat injury prone, so his ability to stay on the field will be an intriguing storyline going forward. Meanwhile, John Skelton is out again, which is bad news for Larry Fitzgerald owners. Kevin Kolb has been far less friendly to Fitz, opting instead to use Larry as a decoy. And it appears as though Knowshon Moreno’s tenure in Denver may be reaching an end. The highly touted 25-year old has never fulfilled his potential and today the Broncos made him a healthy scratch.
Ryan Mathews (SD) – Mathews will make his much-anticipated season debut today against the Falcons after sitting out the first two weeks with a shoulder injury. Atlanta’s run defence is ice-cream soft, so get him in your lineup. He could have played last week, but San Diego decided to play it safe, which means there shouldn’t be a lot of rust as Mathews has had two full weeks of practice.
Antonio Gates (SD) – Gates is active today against the Falcons. Atlanta has given up the 14th most points vs tight ends this season and Gates should have his way with them today. The Chargers have missed Vincent Jackson so far this season, meaning Philip Rivers will rely on Gates even more than usual.
John Skelton (ARI) – Skelton is not active today against the Eagles. A high ankle sprain will likely keep him out of Week 4 as well. Kevin Kolb is not an advisable play against a very good Eagles secondary. I would prefer to see if Carson Palmer or Russell Wilson is available on the wire.
Knowshon Moreno (DEN) – Moreno is a healthy scratch today against the Houston Texans. It has been a very disappointing season for the former 1st round pick, with only 15 yards on 8 carries. If you haven’t already done it, now is absolutely the time to drop him as Willis McGahee doesn’t appear to be losing any carries in the near future.
Adrian Wilson (ARI) – Wilson is inactive today against the Eagles with groin/ankle injuries.
Jeremy Maclin (PHI) – A hip pointer that he suffered in week 1 will keep him out this Sunday. He was noticeably limited by the injury in week 2, despite his TD grab. Jason Avant looks to see an increased role with Maclin on the sidelines.
Torrey Smith (BAL) – Smith’s brother tragically died last night in a motorcycle accident. The Ravens have left it up to Smith as to whether or not he will play. Smith is a home-run threat who could be primed for a breakout this weak vs a soft Patriots pass defence.
Brandon Lloyd (NE) – Lloyd and the Patriots are taking on the Patriots in the Sunday-nighter, which makes him and his thigh injury, a very risky play. The Pats are limited without Aaron Hernandez, which might push Lloyd to suit up, but try avoid the risk of waiting until tonight to find out.
Greg Jennings (GB) – Jennings insists he will play this Monday night against the Seahawks, however waiting until Monday night for the final word is not advisable.
