Those who trot out fantasy’s fifth best defense every week or employ Elvis Dumervil in an IDP league are doing more frowning than smiling right now. If you’re also unfortunate enough to be a Julio Jones owner, you’re really testing that thing your parents always said about your face getting stuck in one position if you keep it there for long enough.
The Broncos defense came into this week rounding out the rear of the top five fantasy defenses with 78 total points at a very fine average of 8.7 per week. But late in the second quarter of their game today against Carolina, something crappy happened with a key sack producer, and therefore a key point producer.
Elvis Dumerfil left with a shoulder injury, and his return is questionable, according to ESPN’s John Clayton. The Broncos have 24 sacks, which is only four behind the league-leading Packers, and Dumervil has six of them. He’s also forced four fumbles.
If he can’t return then a significant presence is gone as the Broncos attempt to contain the mobile and elusive Cam Newton.
