Any news that doesn’t involve the Harbaugh’s and Ray Lewis will receive special status today. The Cleveland Browns have skipped the line to the front, thanks to new head coach Rob Chudzinski and his carefully worded response to a question posed by the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Mary Kay Cabot.
#Browns Chud on if Weeden is starter for 2013: “I think it’s premature” to say that.
— Mary Kay Cabot (@MaryKayCabot) January 23, 2013
Chud — so good — has moved quickly, hiring Norv Turner and Ray Horton as his coordinators — those are two great hires. Turner and Chud prefer a vertical passing game that rely on one-back sets and production from the Tight Ends.
Though Chud’s statement was anything but reassuring, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Weeden get one more year in Cleveland. This year’s draft class is quite weak — starting over in hopes of getting it right at the wrong time is something the Browns have done with little success the past decade. Joe Banner & Co. would do well to give Weeden one more shot.
