Rich Eisen is just a man. Just a man in a suit, but he’s our everyman.
Every year at the Combine we want him to run just a little faster, because we are him, and he is us. With his flying tie and blade arms, the 43-year-old runs the same 40 yards that the prospects 20 years his junior ran, and it usually takes him just over six seconds.
Could he break that elusive six-second barrier this year? (video via Awful Announcing)
Eisen’s time of 6.03 was identical to his personal best 2012 pace. Leon Sandcastle approves.
We’ll wait another year for a balding man to run 40 yards in less than six seconds, but in his ninth attempt Eisen is still far ahead of where he started back in 2005 with a 6.77. As we see below, the improvement has been steady.
- 2013: 6.03
- 2012: 6.03
- 2011: 6.18
- 2010: 6.24
- 2009: 6.34
- 2008: 6.34
- 2007: 6.43
- 2006: 6.22
- 2005: 6.77
Next year, Rich. Next year.
