Quarterback Matt Cassel wasted little time finding a new home today after he was officially released by the Kansas City Chiefs with two years left on his contract. Cassel and the Vikings agreed to terms on a new contract, according to Jay Glazer.

Cassel will now backup Vikings starter Christian Ponder, a role served by Joe Webb last season. Ponder played in all 16 regular season games last season, recording 2,935 yards with 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
Last season, Cassel played in just nine games for the Chiefs, recording six touchdowns and 12 interceptions before losing his job to Brady Quinn after suffering a concussion.
