When you play nine seasons in the NFL while starting 74 games, that’s a fine little career you’ve put together. Even if you’re a defensive tackle who recorded just 10.5 sacks over those nine seasons, and even if you were therefore a mostly unknown player to everyone everywhere.
That describes Anthony Adams, the former Bears and 49ers defensive lineman who officially retired over the weekend after not playing since 2011. But his time as a free agent clawing for work brought us one of the few actually amusing contributions to the “stuff ___ says” meme that was just the coolest about a year ago. In retirement, he’ll be remembered more as an Internet comedian than a football player, and we’re all better for it.
So fittingly his retirement video in which he shoved a microphone in his sleeping infant’s face during a ceremony at White Castle featured plenty of lols.
