NFC Championship - San Francisco 49ers v Atlanta Falcons

UPDATE: According to Erika Leigh, the New England Patriots are finalizing a deal with John Abraham.

  ****

According to a tweet by Albert Beer of the NFL Network, former Atlanta Falcons’ defensive lineman John Abraham will be visiting the New England Patriots on Friday.

Abraham was the 2nd ranked defensive end on our free agent rankings list, and would add some nice veteran depth to the Patriots’ pass rush.

In 16 games with the Falcons in 2012, the former Pro Bowler had 35 tackles, 6 forced fumbles and 10.0 sacks.

New York Jets v Denver Broncos

Elvis Dumervil wants to be a Denver Bronco, and there were even talks that he would be willing to restructure his contract in order to stay in Denver. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like Dumervil will be willing to take enough of a pay cut for the Broncos liking, and if they can’t come to an agreement, he may be cut as early as Friday.

According to Broncos GM John Elway, he wants Dumervil to stay, but thinks his contract is “Out of whack“.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers v Dallas Cowboys

This offseason, the Seattle Seahawks have started to rebuild their defense with an added emphasis on getting into the quarterback’s face (they finished 18th in the NFL last year with only 36 sacks).

Yesterday, the Seahawks signed former Detroit Lion Cliff Avril. Today, they’ve made another splash in the free agent pool, signing former Buccaneers DE Michael Bennett.

Indianapolis Colts v Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears have made a bit of splash in the free agency pool, signing TE Martellus Bennett and DT Jermon Bushrod. Despite Chicago’s obvious willingness to open their wallet for free agents, they have yet to make an offer to longtime Bears’ linebacker Brian Urlacher.

In fact, they haven’t even responded to Urlacher’s contract proposal (rumoured to be a 2-year deal) with a counteroffer.

According to Yahoo Sports’ Michael Silver, there are a handful of teams that are interested in acquiring Urlacher’s services.

According to a source familiar with Urlacher’s situation, there doesn’t seem to be a prevailing sense of urgency coming from Halas Hall as the official start of the 2013 league year approaches Tuesday afternoon. Urlacher, 34, received interest from several teams during the 87-hour “legal tampering” period that preceded the start of free agency, though it’s believed he prefers to remain with the franchise that drafted him ninth overall in 2000.

Chicago Bears v Minnesota Vikings

Yesterday, wide receiver Percy Harvin was traded from the Minnesota Vikings to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a slew of draft picks including a 1st and 7th rounder in this year’s draft. Today, Harvin got that gigantic contract he’s been looking for all along (and a chance to build that Scrooge McDuck style vault/swimming pool I’m sure he’s always wanted).

According to Profootballtalk, Harvin has signed a six-year contract worth $67 million.

The base salaries are $2.5 million in 2013 (fully guaranteed), $11 million in 2014 (guaranteed for injury for now, fully guaranteed on fifth day of the 2014 waiver period), $10.5 million in 2015, $9.9 million in 2016, $9.95 million in 2016, and $11.15 million in 2017.

St. Louis Rams v New York Giants

Albert Beer of the NFL Network is reporting that the Baltimore Ravens have signed defensive tackle Chris Canty to a 3-year, $8 million contract which includes $2.8 million in guaranteed money.

The acquisition of Canty is probably good news for the defending Super Bowl champions, who had already lost linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (Dolphins) and defensive end Paul Kruger (Cleveland) to free agency.

New York Jets v Tennessee Titans

According to a tweet by Jason La Canfora, the Kansas City Chiefs have signed former New York Jets’ defensive end Mike DeVito to a 3-year contract worth $12.6 million, including $6.2 million in guaranteed money.

The 28-year-old DeVito, who had played his entire 7-year career with the Jets, had 52 tackles, 1.0 sacks and 2 forced fumbles in 16 games in 2012.
