Over the last eight days I’ve released an overview on each division. Today I’ll examine five NFL season win totals for individual teams that I believe offer the best value.

The NFC West hasn’t sent two teams to the playoffs since 2004, the longest active drought for any division in the NFL.  For these four teams it again appears that the road to the playoffs goes through the division. The 49ers are installed as heavy favorites to repeat as NFC West champions.

The NFC South was all set up for New Orleans to claim their third division crown in four years when Roger Goodell threw a monkey wrench into the works. New Orleans will now enter the season without Sean Payton or Jonathan Vilma for the year, Joe Vitt for six games, and Will Smith for four games.  However, the Saints remain the division favorites as seen in the odds comparison below.

The Green Bay Packers flirted with perfection last year, winning the division in a walk at 15-1. Now a retooled Bears team, and the rising Lions will try to dethrone the Packers this year. Green Bay remains the team to beat in this division, and the oddsmakers agree as you can see in the odds comparison below.

Year after year the NFC East is the division that receives the most hype, and last year it rewarded spectators with a hard-fought division race that went right down to the final game of the season, with the Giants coming away victorious. Having won the division crown in six of Andy Reid’s 13 seasons as head coach, it’s not surprising to see the Eagles are installed as the favorite to win the division as you can see in the odds comparison below.

A division that not long ago was an easy path to the playoffs for the San Diego Chargers has seen three different winners in the last three seasons. The Denver Broncos made what might be the biggest offseason free agent acquisition in NFL history, and the Oakland Raiders will get to enjoy their first full season with their new quarterback. Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs appear poised to regain their division-winning form from 2010 following an offseason to recover from several crippling injuries.

The oddsmakers seem to think that Peyton Manning’s neck (which is held together with chewing gum) will be fine, and he’ll be able to help Denver repeat as division champs.

The Houston Texans have taken over as the cream of the crop in the AFC South, and things aren’t expected to be much different this season. The Titans, Colts, and Jaguars all head into this season with inexperienced quarterbacks running the show. Consequently, the Texans have been installed as heavy favorites to win the AFC South crown as seen in the odds comparison below.
