A signing that’s been rumored pretty much since it was possible for signings to happen has finally been announced. The Miami Dolphins have secured Dustin Keller with a one-year deal.

He immediately fills the tight end hole that was vacated by Anthony Fasano when he left for Kansas City, and the signing continues the Dolphins’ disposal of every penny in their pockets. At noon on Day 4 of free agency, their haul includes Keller, Mike Wallace, Phillip Wheeler, and Dannell Ellerbe, in addition to re-signing Matt Moore and Brian Hartline, and the franchising of Randy Starks. New York Jets v Miami Dolphins

UPDATE (6:09 p.m. ET, Mar. 14): Well, this took a bit of a turn. After a signing seemed like nearly a formality, Keller is leaving Miami without a contract, although the communication will continue.

The Miami Dolphins are continuing their spending ways by being on the verge of inking free agent tight end Dustin Keller to a deal. The former New York Jet is in Miami getting a physical and, pending a pass, will talk length and finances with the team.

Keller was drafted 30th overall in the 2008 NFL Draft by the Jets and put up over 500 yards in each of his first four seasons in the league, peaking with a 65 catch, 815 yard performance in 2011. Last season, Keller was limited to eight games due to a pulled groin and high ankle sprain and finished with 317 yards and 2 touchdowns.

So far this morning we’ve learned that Rob Gronkowski is capable of walking (good news), Kenny Britt is still quite combustible (utterly expected news), and Mikel Leshoure is healthy, and is therefore now the flex play for everyone everywhere.

So welcome to the early game inactives post, kids, a wondrous place where dreams are shattered. We’ll keep updating this as the official inactives start to trickle out in about 30 minutes, because feverish typing is my favorite Sunday activity next to sitting and eating a copious amount of double stuffed Oreos dipped in chocolate milk.
