Not a good sign for Nelson owners, and with Green Bay facing an Arizona team on short rest, coach Mike McCarthy may be inclined to hold out his star wide receiver for another week.

In Nelson’s absence Aaron Rodgers threw for only 186 yards against the Jaguars last week. James Jones recorded seven receptions for 78 yards to lead the Packers in receiving. On Monday night Alex Smith did anything he wanted against the Cardinals pass defense — 18/19 for 232 yards and three touchdowns. Expect Rodgers to do the same, with or without Nelson

Here’s to hoping that someone in a higher place is smiling upon you, and you’re in one of the 23 percent ESPN leagues in which Randall Cobb was inexplicably available earlier this week. Because right now if you’re a Jordy Nelson owner, Cobb is about to become your glass case. Grab your hammer, break it, and breathe again.

With his status wavering all week during practice, Nelson was — and still is — a game-time decision due to his lingering hamstring injury, meaning there’s a strong possibility he’ll be restricted to highly paid and much less attractive cheerleader duty today. Although he’ll still test out the injury prior to a cushy matchup against the Jaguars, ESPN’s Adam Schefter has sounded the panic alarm.
