The Dump and Chase – 10/04/2010

- The Anaheim Ducks named Ryan Getzlaf captain on Sunday.  Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu were named alternate captains.

- The Jonathan Bernier era is set to begin in Los Angeles.

- Waive goodbye to Michael Grabner in Florida, and wave goodbye to Kyle Wellwood as he’s heading to Russia.

- Colorado squeaked above the salary cap floor, just barely.

- There will be a victim of the salary cap squeeze in New Jersey, Dainius Zubrus and/or Colin White appear to be the most obvious casualties.

- The Dallas Stars may be surrounded by financial uncertainty, but their fans have reason to be cautiously optimistic according to Defending Big D.

- Jay McClement emerged as a solid two-way centreman last season, and he’s impressed everyone during the pre-season.  If everything falls into place in St. Louis, McClement may get the attention he deserves as a top-tier shutdown player.

- A feeling of relief is likely mutual between the Vancouver Canucks and former first round pick Cody Hodgson.  Hodgson’s impressive pre-season performance probably played a significant role in the jettisoning of Brendan Morrison from his professional tryout.
