Down Goes Parise

Some injury news that Lou Lamoriello isn’t ecstatic about, Zach Parise will miss 3 months after having a torn meniscus in his right knee repaired.  I want to say it’s still too early to close the book on the Devils’ season, but this news isn’t inspiring much optimism.

Blue Jackets’ Absentee Owner Speaks on Brassard

John P. McConnell, the owner of the Columbus Blue Jackets, lent his support to Derick Brassard when this statement was issued following the centreman’s controversial comments on Montreal radio:

“I know that Derick was really bothered by what happened and I talked to him about it this morning. I understand that comments can be misconstrued, and I just wanted to assure him that he and his teammates have my complete support and that I am their biggest fan. Derick is a fine young man. I told him the only thing he has to worry about is playing well tonight and continuing to represent our organization in the outstanding manner in which he has since he’s been here.”

Who Says Ron Hainsey Doesn’t Make A Great Interview?

If you didn’t catch Puck Daddy Radio’s interview with Ron Hainsey of the Atlanta Thrashers from Tuesday, then you need to do that right now.  His comments on Jeremy Roenick are worth the price of admission, which is actually free on iTunes, there’s also a live card game going on and even a huge belch at the end of the spot.  Bizarre.

Rangers Blocking Shots, Too Many Shots

Good read from Blueshirt Banter on the New York Rangers shot blocking prowess translating into wins, even though in essence they’re giving up more opportunities to opponents:

It’s tough to quantify blocked shots in the NHL. The more blocked shots a team or a player has, it means that more shots are directed at the net while that player is on the ice. Generally, that means the opposition is getting more scoring chances, and thus will be able to score more goals on our beloved Blueshirts. The reason why this hasn’t happened for the Rangers is because of stellar goaltending. In each game that the Rangers have blocked 20 or more shots, the goalies have faced a minimum of 25 shots on goal. That equals at least 45 shots that hit a Ranger in some capacity, and this doesn’t include posts or shots that miss the net.
