When I was 5 I caught a highlight of Paul Coffey undressing a goaltender and slipping the puck by him with one hand on his stick.  The commentator called it one of the nicest shorthanded goals he’d ever seen – so naturally, I assumed a shorthanded goal was any marker scored while a player had one hand on his stick.  On Friday night versus St. Louis, Jamie Benn tied the game at 2 with a Coffey-esque one-handed shorthander.

Dallas defeated the Blues 3-2, and hopefully a child somewhere believes that a shorthanded goal is scored with one hand.
