Nobody wants to face the Washington Capitals when they’re angry.  Nobody likes the Washington Capitals when they’re angry, and right now they’re probably angry.  Tomas Vokoun will have to stand on his head if he’s to give the Panthers a chance at limiting Capitals’ attack tonight.  Washington is coming off of an embarrassing loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs… there will be shots.

Florida Panthers vs. Washington Capitals 7:00 PM ET

Ladies and gentlemen, Ron Barr:

Florida Panthers: You won’t scare this team with any rough tactics and you won’t score a lot of goals against them either. The Panthers will wait for the other team to make a mistake and then cash in on it. If they get a lead they’ll protect it by checking the other team into the ice. Bryan McCabe is a  veteran who combines strong defensive play with the ability to score the occasional big goal.  Bryan loves to check so match him up against the opposition’s top scoring line and make sure he’s on the ice when you are on the power play.  Florida’s power play is garbage, but put McCabe out there anyway.  The goalkeeping is in good hands when Tomas Vokoun plays – make sure he’s out there during a big game.  David Booth is big strong forward who can score the big goal, pair him with Stephen Weiss to maximize your offensive ability.

Washington Capitals: The Caps have many guys who can put the puck in the net. Their defense can skate and shoot with the best of them and they have well balanced scoring from their forward lines. They usually win high scoring games but they also have the size and goalkeeping to handle grinding battles.  Alex Ovechkin is perhaps the most exciting player in the game, he’s a scrappy competitor who comes to play every night. Nicklas Backstrom is a magician with the puck and is great at spotting the open man for a pass. Give him plenty of duty on the power play.  Mike Green is a defenceman who can light the lamp with the best of them, we can’t re-create his super cool faux-hawk for a 16-bit game, but you can imagine.  Be sure to use Alex Semin, he’s a tricky skater and stickhandler who can weave through the other team before finding an open man or shooting on net. Give him quick passes so that he can use his quick trigger to shoot at the goalies before they are set.

Bruce Boudreau, Hockey Coach or Comedian?

Prediction: We’re expecting a lot of goals tonight.  Alex Ovechkin could start firing goals like the spread gun in Contra any day now, and the Florida Panthers might as well be the victim in waiting.  We don’t know what the over/under is here, but you should take the over.  Caps win by 4+…
