According to Reuters Canada, SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL has released goaltender Evegeni Nabokov.  According to the club’s website, it was a mutual parting:

“The contract has been annulled by mutual consent because of family reasons”

Nabokov and the San Jose Sharks parted ways after last season following Nabokov’s 10-year run with the team.  The 35-year old returned to his native Russia in hopes of extending his career a few more years.  By all accounts, Nabokov’s first year of a 4-year pack with SKA was not going well.  Nabokov is now a free agent, it should be interesting to see if he attracts any interest from an NHL club.

We’ll have more details as they emerge…
