It’s that time of the year!  The time when the days get colder, the malls get busier, the bills get longer and every website puts together a bunch of “Best of” lists for the year.  And, because we enjoy following trends as well as counting stuff, we’re doing the same.

Today, we present our Seven Favourite Hockey Screw-Ups of 2010!  Our friend Boomer up there didn’t make the list, but we can definitely consider him an honourable mention.

Here we go!

7.  Ovechkin Falls

To be fair, if any other player does this, it goes unmentioned.  When it’s Alex Ovechkin in the middle of a slump, it’s considered a major screw-up.

6. Rick DiPietro Hands Over A Goal

The Islanders were on the power play.  DiPietro thought he was a forward.  He isn’t.

5. Patrick Eaves Trips Over The Invisible Man

Sometimes your worst enemy is yourself.

4. Daniel Carcillo Takes Out Jeff Carter

This is a great hit by Philadelphia Flyer Daniel Carcillo.  Too bad Jeff Carter is also a Flyer.

3. Jaroslav Halak Shows Mercy

Sometimes it seems like it’s impossible to score on Jaroslav Halak.  So, against the Wings, he decided to show some mercy and put one past himself.

2. Dan Boyle Wins It In Overtime… For Colorado

The series is tied at one a piece.  The game is tied at zero.  It’s overtime.  Dan Boyle scores on his own net.  This just has to be included here.

1. Kovalchuk’s Shootout Fail

The video’s description says it all: “In a perfect microcosm of the Devils’ season, Ilya Kovalchuk has the puck slip off his stick, gift-wrapping a shootout victory for the Buffalo Sabres.”

We’re sure that we’re missing some great ones.  What are your favourite screw-ups of the year?
