Here’s something you don’t see every day… Dimitri Shikin is grazed (and that’s being generous) by a Finnish player and then either steps on a landmine or attempts a backflip in an attempt to solicit a call.

  1. This is going to sound crazy, but I don’t think that’s embellishment. Take a look at the play again: the Finnish player’s stick catches Shikin right in the stomach and then appears to get stuck in his jersey, twisting him around through the air. You can see Shikin doubled over in pain after the play is over, clearly holding his gut.

    Right around the 0:38 mark of the video is the best view of it. It doesn’t look like Shikin leaped backwards: he got (accidentally) speared and then flipped around by the stick caught in the jersey.

  2. Still looks like Shikin was getting his leap on before the stick got up. Definitely some contact there, though.
