According to multiple reports via Greg Wyshynski at Puck Daddy, Team Russia were removed from their scheduled flight out of Buffalo-Niagara International Airport Thursday morning for what was described as “unruly behaviour”. One report out of Buffalo quoted police saying the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship winners were thrown off their flight “because members of the team were intoxicated”.
It’s hardly surprising that a group of teenagers would celebrate such a glorious come from behind victory in any way that wouldn’t, at least to some degree, involve the consumption of alcohol. The legal drinking age in America is 21, compared to 18 in Russia – it’s possible that most of the Russians were conducting themselves in a manner that wouldn’t be illegal in their homeland, but there’s the whole matter of drinking responsibly.
The lovely young gentleman above is not drunk in that screengrab, but he is under the legal drinking age in the United States. He should try and hang on to his remaining incisors.
