The NHL announced its ‘Three Stars’ for the month of January on Monday. Boston’s Patrice Bergeron was named the first star after piling up 17 of his 40 points on the season over the course of the last month. Bergeron registered 13 points in the Bruins’ eight victories in January and also totaled 9 points across a five game scoring streak.
Phoenix Coyotes defenceman Keith Yandle used January to springboard himself in to elite defencemen conversations. The first time All-Star notched 17 points of his own during the month. Yandle leads the Coyotes in scoring with 44 points on the season and is currently on a nine-game point scoring streak.
The All-Star that never was, Pekka Rinne, was named the month’s third star after posting eight wins for with the Nashville Predators in 11 starts. Rinne currently holds an impressive .929 save percentage and a goals against average of 2.11. Rinne sits in second place among NHL goaltenders in both SV% and GAA.
