Marc Savard’s tale of woe continues as both ESPNBoston and CSNNE.com have reported that the Bruins have shutdown the centre for the remainder of the season. A formal announcement from the Boston Bruins is expected for later Monday.

Brodeur “Tweaks” Knee, Leaves Sunday’s Game

Martin Brodeur stopped all 11 shots he faced from the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday and was credited with win. The bad news is that Brodeur “tweaked” his knee during the Devils’ 4-1 victory, but the 38-year old says it’s nothing major. Via Fire & Ice:

“So, tomorrow we’ll see how it feels and we’ll go from there. I don’t know what I’m going to have to go through, but I don’t think it’s something that’s major at all.”

Flyers Working to Lockup Leino

According to CSNPhilly.com, the Philadelphia Flyers are believed to be offering Ville Leino something in the range of a “three and four-year contract worth between $9 million and $12 million”. Broad Street Hockey has a breakdown of the salary cap implications for a potential deal worth $3 million per year.

Sean Avery, Voice of Reason?

Sean Avery says and does a many of stupid things. He can be entertaining at times and then turnaround and do something despicable. In the case of his stance on gay hockey players, Sean Avery is a ray of hope. Advocate.com via Puck Daddy:

“If there’s a kid in Canada or wherever, who is playing and really loves the game and wants to keep playing but he’s worried about coming out, I’d tell him to pick up the phone and call [NHLPA executive director] Donald Fehr and tell him to book me a [plane] ticket,” he told the Toronto Sun. “I’ll stand beside him in the dressing room while he tells his teammates he is gay. Maybe if Sean Avery is there, they would have less of a problem with it.”

Paajarvi is Quietly Coming Along

Edmonton’s Magnus Paajarvi is earning his keep according to David Staples at The Cult of Hockey.

So far this year, Paajarvi has played 672 even strength minutes, third most for an Oilers winger. In that time, he’s made plays that have significantly contributed to 131 Oilers scoring chances, while making mistakes 50, not a bad ratio at all for a winger.
