Byfuglien Gets Paid

The Atlanta Thrashers have signed Dustin Byfuglien to a new five-year $26 million deal. Kent Wilson is prepping his take on the contract for later today, but in the meantime SBNation has a decent piece on what the deal means for the future of the Thrashers organization.

Kessel and Grabovski Bring the Highlights

Obligatory Concussion News

Is Alex Ovechkin Out of Shape?

Is it possible that Alex Ovechkin’s apparent goal scoring woes are the result of bad conditioning? Justin Bourne explored the idea over at Puck Daddy:

It’s not like his season is a complete write-off (his numbers are good enough for 11th in the league), he just doesn’t quite look like himself right now. I’ve heard people say he’s “saving himself for playoffs,” but that’s nonsense too. Like there’s a puck he could win a footrace to in February, but he’s like, “Naw, think about April, Alex! Let him have it.”

All I know is, Capitals fans should whole-heartedly embrace the “he’s in slightly worse shape” theory, because the alternative is petrifying:

He’s disinterested.

Grabovski’s Game Winner is Impressive Because Grabovski Was Probably Concussed

  1. Despite Grabovski’s great goal(s) and all round performance last night, I really hope they take a good hard look at him and make sure he’s able to play without the ramifications of concussion symptoms. With the year he’s having it would be a damn shame for them (or himself) to push it too far and cause long-term damage…
