And someone has been traded! The Florida Panthers have traded Radek Dvorak and fifth-round pick to the Atlanta Thrashers for Niclas Bergfors and Patrick Rissmiller.
Dvorak has seven goals and 14 assists for 21 points with the Panthers this season. Niclas Bergfors has 11 goals, 18 assists and 29 points with Atlanta.
On the surface it seems like Florida benefits more from this deal than the Thrashers do. Atlanta is currently four points out of the playoffs and is 2-6-2 in their last ten. While Bergfors possesses more raw talent, Dvorak is an older, more established player who should help the Thrashers as they push to make the playoffs.
Contract-wise, Rissmiller & Bergfors make a combined $1.9 million. Dvorak has a cap hit of $1.7 million.
Rissmiller and Dvorak are both UFAs next season and Bergfors is an RFA. Both teams have a ton of cap space, so they may have felt like those players would not be returning next year in order to make a trade.
