All signs point to the Washington Capitals being without gritty forward Mike Knuble for Game 4 in New York tonight. According to ESPN’s Scott Burnside, Eric Fehr is set to take Knuble’s spot in the lineup as he is expected to miss the game with an undisclosed injury.
Knuble has one goal in three playoff games thus far while averaging over 21-minutes of ice-time per game. Brooks Laich, who will likely see an increased role on special teams, underscored the importance of Knuble’s presence around the net, and in all situations for that matter.
“That’s usually where the goals are scored and Mike leads the way in that department. He’s also a big factor on the penalty kill and five-on-five and he really embodies a lot of how we want to play around here. We’ll have to step up while Mike’s not in the lineup.”
Whatever is the case with Knuble’s injury, it remains shrouded in the secrecy of playoff speak – so there’s no word on whether he could miss more time or if tonight’s game is all that he’s expected to be out for. We’ll have more on Knuble as information comes to light.
