Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault confirmed that Mikael Samuelsson will not travel to San Jose for Games 3 and 4 on Wednesday. According to reports out of Vancouver, Samuelsson will likely miss the remainder of the playoffs and could be headed for season ending surgery. Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province relayed the news via Twitter. Sportsnet’s Mark Spector also confirmed that Sameulsson will not travel, but offered no mention of possible surgery.

Sameulsson was injured in Game 5 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals when he fell awkwardly after getting tied up with Nashville’s Nick Spaling. The team had tagged Samuelsson with a ‘lower-body injury’, with today’s reports offering a little bit of clarity in labeling it a leg injury.

Phew, we were worried that he may have suffered some damage to his Sami Salos.

Tim Wharnsby of CBCSports confirms that Jeff Tambellini will return to the Canucks lineup for Game 2. Samuelsson had one goal and two assists in 11 playoff games with Vancouver. The 34-year old has 53 career post-season points in 92 games.
