TSN’s Bob McKenzie reports via Twitter that Steve Downie will not face any supplementary discipline for his late hit on Boston’s Johnny Boychuk. Downie slammed Boychuk into the boards behind the Bruins net in the third period, which led to a boarding call. Boychuk left the ice, presumably for the quiet room after having his head rattled off the glass courtesy of Downie.
There’s no question that it was late and deserving of a call, but some members of the Boston media were calling for a suspension. Boychuk did return to the game later, thus helping Downie walk away without a spin of the old wheel of justice.
