EA Sports and IGN have released a first look at NHL 12, and hockey gaming nerds everywhere are salivating over the new features previewed. Where EA’s Madden franchise is making changes to coincide with the NFL’s concussion protocol , NHL 12 promises to up the collisions and include things like helmets popping off and running the goalies. The game, currently scheduled for a September release, will also feature a Winter Classic mode for the first time.

Here’s a glimpse of what you can expect from NHL 12:

No word yet on what, if anything, the game will include to address the NHL’s ongoing concussion issues. We’re hoping for a built-in “Quiet Room” mode where users must pass a baseline concussion test in order to get their concussed players back in the game. A stretch, we know.
