The Detroit Red Wings didn’t make a big splash in the free agent race this summer, but they did add defenseman Ian White to the fold. After learning on Tuesday that he’d be paired up with living legend Nicklas Lidstrom to begin the preseason, White sounded like the 21-year old rookie he once was… six years ago.
By his own measure, Ian White is still among the NHL’s ‘younger guys’ at the ripe age of 27. Via Red Wings official site:
“I’m probably the luckiest guy in the hockey world right now. Being a new guy coming in here, and a younger guy too, to be paired up with – more then likely – the best defenseman to ever play, it’s quite an honor.”
An honour indeed. And yes, on the Chris Chelios age scale 27 would be considered infancy.
