We had a dream. We had a dream that Alexei Yashin would return to the NHL, whether it was with the New York Islanders (it wouldn’t be) or any other team, we had a dream. Those dreams have been crushed with one quick devastating blow to the throat of their chances. Dmitry Chesnokov tweets that SovSport has confirmed Alexei Yashin will be joining HC CSKA Moscow of the KHL by tomorrow. We are sad face.
Chesnokov quoted CSKA GM (and former NHLer) Sergei Nemchinov saying Yashin “will become CSKA’s player tomorrow”. According to SovSport, any deal that is to be signed hinges on Yashin passing a physical.
CSKA will be Yashin’s third KHL team since he was banished from the NHL in 2007. Yashin last played for St. Petersburg SKA, where he compiled 97-points in 108 games over the last two seasons. Admittedly, myself and Rick Moldovanyi only wanted him to return to the NHL for comedic purposes, but we’re crushed nonetheless.
