The question on a lot of people’s minds following Mike Modano’s retirement announcement was: will he be able to patch things up with his former team and retire as a member of the Dallas Stars? This Pierre LeBrun tweet should tell you all you need to know:
Modano had previously hinted at the possibility of making amends with Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk in an effort to leave the game as a member of the team he spent 20 of his 21 NHL seasons with. This is great news for Modano, the Stars franchise and hockey fans in general. While the Stars remain locked in a bout of ownership uncertainty, the return of Modano is a breath of fresh air for a once proud franchise. Hopefully this is the first positive step of many for the Dallas Stars.
Modano piled up 1,359 of his 1,374 career points with the Dallas Stars/Minnesota North Stars franchise. He retires as the NHL’s all-time American born scoring leader.
