Every year around this point we start to notice one or two players who are just not producing the way they have in the past. They players that are paid  the big bucks to put up offensive numbers becasue they have proven that they can. These are the players that drive fantasy geeks nuts becasue they wasted such a high pick on them only to see them stumble out of the gate. Well, we are approximately 25 games into the season and some players are just not producing yet, lets take a look.

Jarome Iginla

There was a point last night where Sidney Crosby tied Jarome Iginla in the scoring race. I think if you said that to Sid himself he would reply “Really?”.  Iggy picked up an assist to bring his total to 7 goals, 5 assists, 12 points in 23 games. Do I really need to go through his resume? We are talking about a player who has scored at least 30 goals in 10 straight seasons. Its been a tough year in Calgary with possible headbutting with Brent Sutter and trade rumours surfacing everywhere. Its looks like it has affected his stats.

Alexander Ovechkin

I know you are probably tired of hearing about this one, but I have to bring it up. Last season was OV’s worst as far as offensive numbers go (85 points) , and this year he is actually below that pace. Ovechkin has 8 goals in 23 games, before this season it has taken him an average of just 12 games to get that 8th goal. Maybe Dale Hunter can give him a spark.

Bobby Ryan/ Ryan Getzlaf/ Corry Perry

I’m putting all three of these guys under one category becasue they have been so bad that they do not even add up to one person. So far this season through 23 games they have combined for 45 points; last year at this point they had 63. When these three struggle, so does the team. If you can’t find the Ducks in the Western Conference standings, keep looking down…a little further…keep going…there they are, just one point ahead of Columbus.

Ilya Kovalchuk

No I didn’t copy and past this from last season. I know that he has missed some time becasue of injury, but 4 goals in 17 games? He didn’t get goal #5 last season until game #25 but everyone blamed that on Head Coach John MacLean. What is THIS year’s excuse? I’m sure Devils fans are so happy that they signed him until the end of time.

Pavel Datsyuk/Henrik Zetterberg

The leading scorer for the Detroit Red Wings right now is Johan Franzen. I love the Mule as much as the next guy, but that is unacceptable. Last year at this point these two combined for 51 points. this year: 32.

Eric Staal

Do scroll down if you are squeamish in any way, shape or form.
