A celebration is in order

You want to talk best goals of the season? We have a new contender from a guy who isn’t exactly Mr. Popularity as Mike Ribeiro put an absolutely silly clapper past Miikka Kiprusoff to win the game for Dallas in overtime over the Flames.

After winning the puck off the sideboards with one hand and going behind the back with his stick, Ribeiro waltzes into the slot with Mark Giordano slow to close him down. The result after winding up was a beautiful goal as he goes bar down off the top left corner.

Somewhere, Justin Bourne is getting flooded with e-mails about how one of his idiot writers made a spelling error on a guy’s name and now people are thinking that Mike Ribeiro is a clutch, one man wrecking crew.

For at least one night, it was true. Sorry, Montreal. The world will right itself soon.

With the win, Dallas only sits two points out of the playoffs behind Phoenix and… the Flames. Huge two points for them.

Unfortunately for them, Jamie Benn may be out for an extended period of time. He had his leg lacerated badly after getting tangled up with none other than Giordano along those very side boards. There have been some pessimistic injury updates on Benn and the status of his leg.

Here’s the incident:

As a fan of good hockey I can only hope that he is back very soon.
