The way Steven Stamkos is going he’ll probably be heading to the Hockey Hall of Fame one day. I’m being optimistic, sure, but let’s look at some numbers here.
Stamkos has played 301 NHL games in his brief time with Tampa Bay. He has already scored 159 goals. When you factor in his 140 assists, that’s a pretty impressive ratio of 299 points in 301 games. What makes this all the more impressive is that he turned 22 roughly one week ago. He already has a Rocket Richard trophy. He’ll probably win another one this year. Two scoring titles in four years of playing professional hockey before you’re 25 isn’t too shabby.
Oh hey, on that note, he hasn’t hit his prime yet either.
Here and now: Stamkos scored his 40th goal of this fairly young NHL season on Saturday night and it was a dandy.
Take a look.
I can see a PSA right now. “Tomas Vokoun, please retrieve your jock from Row Z of the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Tomas Vokoun, Row Z.”
Isn’t it just a matter of time before Stammer takes the title of “World’s best hockey player”?
