On today’s episode of the Backhand Shelf Podcast, the Toronto Maple Leafs may or may not come up (hint: they do. A lot).

We discuss the Carlyle hiring/Wilson firing and a lot more, including….

* Burke’s explanation including “It would’ve been cruel and unusual punishment to have him coach another game at the ACC”

* Don Cherry went bananas on Brian Burke

* Ilya Bryzgalov is still Ilya Bryzgalov, on and off the ice

* OHL forward has to fill in as ‘tender for a game, gives up 13

* Power rankings

* Jackie Redmond joins us for another creatively titled edition of “Jackie”

* And much more.

  1. Something had to be done with the staffing of the leafs. I’d really believe a lot of players could not followed Ron Wilson philosphy and he is quick to judge. So firing may be the best thing to do but that should been done before the trade deadline.
    Brian Burke plays favorites with his association and that has to stop. He had to make sound judgements for the the team and by the team for hogtowns hockey favs.

  2. Great podcast guys – very entertaining and informative
