Above: Really good hockey player

Earlier this season when he was leading the NHL in scoring Claude Giroux firmly planted his name on the list of NHL Superstars with concussions. How did this happen? He got kneed in the head by Wayne Simmonds. Seriously, how does that happen?

How it happens I guess doesn’t matter and really begins to defy logic when you consider that it happened again… tonight… in Toronto this time. Poor Scott Hartnell was just skating along when Giroux, with a little help from Dion Phaneuf, just stuck his head between Scotty’s legs (aside: HARTNELL DOWN!) and knocked him over. Giroux – in a scary moment for Flyers fans – was a little woozy getting up…

…But not for long!

Giroux came back for his next shift and got better as the game went along. Some people would normally contend the assertion that last statement makes but it’s true! He was so strong on the return that he pulled off the ultimate deke of all dekes - the Datsyukian Deke.

I have never seen someone not named Pavel Datsyuk pull of the move, and I’m going to be honest, I freaked out a little bit in a giddy school girl way.

I challenge you to be different.

Seriously. If you’re a Leafs fan, how mad could you be?

I mentioned that the Flyers could be peaking at the right time earlier tonight… if they make some noise down the stretch, is Giroux a Hart candidate in your mind?

  1. I am a Leaf fan, and I was AT the game, and I was giddy too. SICKK dangles.

  2. If the Flyers keep on this tear and Giroux stays near the top of the scoring race, then he should get consideration. The winner of the scoring title is going to be either Malkin, Stamkos or Giroux. Lundqvist is probably the only other possible Hart candidate.

In my mind Giroux and Malkin are both better all-around players than Stamkos. Also, the Lightning being terrible hurts Stamkos’s chances.

If it comes down to Giroux or Malkin I guess the question is, does Malkin having a weaker supporting cast make him “more valuable” or does Giroux’s ability to make his teammates better make for a stronger MVP case. (Hartnell could score 40 goals this season, thanks in large part to Giroux).

    • “does Malkin having a weaker supporting cast make him “more valuable” or does Giroux’s ability to make his teammates better make for a stronger MVP case”

Not sure I follow this. You’re calling Malkin’s linemates worse and crediting Giroux for elevating his own better linemates’ to a level of production….slightly lower than Malkin’s inferior linemates are producing. I don’t really understand where you’re trying to go with this.

  3. I think my Leafs fan pedigree speaks for itself, how could you be mad at losing to a move that ridiculous given the Leafs’ usual propensity to lose to scrubs?

  4. “I have never seen someone not named Pavel Datsyuk pull of the move”
Linus Omark, anyone? Wasn’t he the Swedish teenager that Datsyuk ripped that move off of in the first place?
Datsyuk is amazing, but it’s retarded how many people think he’s the only guy in the league capable of pulling off fake shots and toe-drags. His shootouts aren’t even his most impressive aspect.
