Matt Hunwick is known as a fairly capable offensive defenseman. In fact, most people would probably argue that he is only truly effective with the puck on his stick. Regardless of how many people have actually seen Hunwick play hockey and know his game, he’ll be on highlight reels for a while with this one.
With five minutes to go in the first period in their game against the Rangers, the Avalanche gain the zone thanks to some nifty work by Matt Duchene and Peter Mueller. When Mueller sends the puck back to Hunwick at the blueline, the 26 year old Michigan native goes to work in pretty fashion.
Take a look.
The Avs beat the Rangers tonight, in large part due to some VERY solid goaltending from Semyon Varlamov, and with that inch closer to a playoff berth.
If they sneak in, do you think the Avalanche are a threat with their hot goaltender and young talent?
