Earlier today, Timothy Burke (AKA @bubbaprog on Twitter) of Deadspin and All Things Hilarious in Sports posted a video of the debacle that has been Marc-Andre Fleury’s attempt at goaltending so far in the 2011-2012 playoffs. It really hasn’t been very good.

Here at theScore we’ve also noticed that Ilya Bryzgalov has been just a touch suspect in the other net too. Luckily for him, an offense that averages almost seven goals-per-game could have Darren Pang in net and still win. Hell, even Michael Leighton could win with that support. Or Brian Boucher. Or Roman Cechmanek. Or Robert Esche. Or….(stop me when you get the joke).

If we may add to the bad goaltending montages out there, here’s Ilya Bryzgalov giving up 12 goals in three games, en route to his flawless 3-0 record.

Four against per game. That’s why they paid him the big bucks!

  1. Bryz has been playing like the rest of the Flyers- crappy starts then picks it up. He has made some HUGE saves after giving up terrible goals.

    • Good call. That’s the difference between the 2 goalies. Bryz has made big saves later on in games that have kept the Flyers in front, while the Flower sieves it up all game long so the Pens cant get back in it.

  2. Doesn’t look great. I wonder how it looks at regular speed.

  3. Somehow it’s Bryz’ fault that he got hung out to dry in the first fifteen seconds of the game (pictured.) There have been a few softies, no doubt, and a bad break when a puck caught in his gear popped loose when he jumped up, and trickled into the net. But he has shut the door in every game when he needed to, and hasn’t let any of the bad goals/breaks get to his confidence.

Fleury, on the other hand, has displayed systemic weakness, getting torched stick side for about 85% of Philly’s goals. He has always been an extraordinarily lucky goalie. A lot of pucks find their way behind him but somehow fail to go in the net, but now the force field is down.

  4. Cut him, he sucks balls
