Vancouver Canucks v Chicago Blackhawks

Everything these days is going right for the Chicago Blackhawks. The team has earned at least one point in their first 24 games, an NHL record, and on top of that, have won a team record 11 straight. Every night it seems as if a different player steps it up, with last night’s heroics belonging to Daniel Carcillo, but for the first time all year, injuries will play a role over the next few weeks.

Before the game, the Blackhawks announced forward Marian Hossa would be out with an upper-body injury, and during the game, they lost Andrew Shaw and Patrick Sharp to injuries. The Blackhawks have not released details on the extent of Sharp’s injury, but we did have an update from Yahoo! Sports Thursday morning, which won’t sit well with Sharp owners.

Owners of Hossa can expect a day-to-day evaluation, but losing Sharp for up to three weeks at this critical portion of the fantasy season really hurts. Again, the Blackhawks did not release details of the injury, but after looking at the hit from Avalanche defenseman Ryan O’Byrne, it looks like a shoulder injury.

Losing Sharp and his five goals, 13 assists, +7 rating, and 78 shots will be tough to replace on the wire, but here are a few names to consider after you place Sharp on IR.

Blue Jackets forward Vinny Prospal:

Stats: 9 goals, 5 assists, -2, 46 shots

Ducks forward Andrew Cogliano:

Stats: 8 goals, 6 assists, +11, 34 shots

Flames forward Curtis Glencross:

Stats: 8 goals, 5 assists, -5, 54 shots

Coyotes forward Martin Hanzal:

Stats: 7 goals, 3 assists, -3, 38 shots

Blue Jackets forward Artem Anisimov:

Stats: 6 goals, 2 assists, -6, 43 shots

Other news:

The Senators may have Jason Spezza back ahead of schedule. The team announced he may actually return in 2-3 weeks. Keep note of his progress and think about a potential trade for him if you are need of offense.

With the trade deadline approaching in most Yahoo Leagues, I thought I would take a look at the top 5 players traded so far on Yahoo this week.

1. Viktor Fasth (ANA)

2. Brad Richards (NYR)

3. Marian Gaborik (NYR)

4. Nicklas Backstrom (WAS)

5. Phil Kessel (TOR)

Thoughts: Not surprised with this list, as Fasth got off to the hot start and owners are doing the right thing by selling high. Richards and Gaborik have been disappointments in New York and this is direct reflection of how frustrated owners really feel. Kessel has been a guy you’ve waited to gain his value back all season, so a three point game against the Senators Wednesday night may have helped that.
