When the Columbus Blue Jackets acquired goalie Sergei Bobrovsky from the Philadelphia Flyers for multiple draft picks in June of last year, it was clear they were getting a solid backup that would split time with Steve Mason throughout the season. What they didn’t know, is they may, and I repeat, may, have found themselves a true number one goalie in return for those picks,
While the struggles of Ilya Bryzgalov continue in Philadelphia, Bobrovsky has put together a very impressive seven game stretch, that came with his first career shutout Saturday against the Detroit Red Wings. Over his past seven starts, Bobrovsky has gone 5-1-1. What’s more impressive is in his last 230:43 played, he has a 0.52 GAA and .981 save percentage. In fantasy, he’s owned in 38 percent of Yahoo! leagues and 32.2 percent of ESPN Leagues.
To put things in perspective, look at the comparisons of the two goalies stats this season.
|Sergei Bobrovsky (CLB)||Ilya Bryzgalov (PHI)|
|16 Games Played: 7-6-3 record||24 Games Played: 11-11-1 record|
|Goals against average: 2.30||Goals against average: 2.80|
|Save percentage: .919||Save percentage:.899|
Not saying the Flyers traded the wrong guy, since nobody would take the Bryzgalov contract off the hands of the Flyers in a million years, but it’s looking like the Blue Jackets, now 14th in the Western Conference with 22 points, might have found themselves a goalie they can rely on each night.
Steve Mason, only owned in only 4 percent of Yahoo! Leagues can be dropped for sure, and looking for a way to acquire Bobrovsky in your pool is now not out the question.
Injury news around the league:
Stars forward Jamie Benn was knocked out of the game last night after taking a shoulder to the head by Coyotes forward Martin Hanzal. Benn, who has six goals and ten assists in 19 games, could miss some time. Hanzal, on the other hand, may have a suspension coming his way.
Blues rookie Vladimir Tarasenko, currently on IR with a concussion, still has no timetable for a return. In leagues with no IR position, you might not be able to afford keeping on your roster too much longer.
And for #stlblues fans, you will like my last note the best: Tarasenko went through a light skate today.

Coyotes forward Radim Vrbata looks to be close to returning from a foot injury.
#Coyotes Head Coach Dave Tippett today said injured forward Radim Vrbata is “close” to returning to lineup. Vrbata has missed last 7 games
