The last thing the Tampa Bay Lightning needed these days was an injury to one of their star forwards. The Lightning are currently in 12th place in Eastern Conference, five points behind the Rangers for the eighth and final playoff spot, and eight points behind the Hurricanes for the Southeast division crown.
New today that captain Vincent Lecavalier will be out indefinitely with a possible knee injury is obviously not the news the team needed to here, and more importantly, not what owners of the former 1st round pick in 1998 draft needed at this point in the fantasy season.
Lecavalier was originally listed as day-to-day after looking to injure his knee Tuesday against the Panthers. On the season, he has rewarded owners with seven goals and 15 assists in 26 games with a +1 rating and 62 shots on net. He was on pace for a 40 point season after recording just 49 in 64 games last season, so owners were pleased with the first half output to date.
General Manager Steve Yzerman stated that surgery would not be required, but it’s starting to sound as if this may be an injury that could keep him out for weeks and not days. In that case, owners will have to find a replacement for him after placing him on IR.
So who might be available on the wire?We take at look at players who could help you with Lecavalier out of your lineup.
