San Jose Sharks v Edmonton Oilers

UPDATE: Bob McKenzie is reporting that the Rangers are sending the Sharks a 2nd round pick, a 3rd round pick (originally from Florida) and a conditional 2nd round pick (that will become a 5th rounder if the Rangers can’t re-sign Clowe or they don’t win 2 playoff rounds).

According to a report by Pierre LeBrun, the New York Rangers have acquired Ryane Clowe from the San Jose Sharks.

Clowe has struggled mightily this season, collecting 11 points in 28 games. The shocking part: none of these points are goals.

Despite his mediocre season (mediocre may be putting it hilariously too kindly), Clowe is a 6’2 225 pound forward with good offensive skill. His two 20+ goal seasons and three 50+ point season (including 24 goals and 62 points in 2010-11) mean that the Rangers are adding another weapon to their ridiculous arsenal as they continue to try and claw their way back into the upper echelon of the Eastern conference.

It still hasn’t been announced what is coming back to the Sharks in the deal.

  1. “Rangers are adding another weapon to their ridiculous arsenal”

The ridiculous arsenal that is currently 30th in the NHL for Goals For. Oh the Rangers, will they ever learn?

    • What’s “to learn?” though?

Face it: The Rangers will never, ever, EVER pull a total tank job. The MSG suits who rely on all those expensive corporate luxury box accounts won’t allow it. Thus, they’ll never build from the draft. Trades and free agency are the only options left, unfortunately.

    • They do have a ridiculous line-up though, but who cares if they can’t get results I suppose (As a Habs fan I do have some fear of them come playoff time).

  2. Of course the Rangers would trade for a guy with zero goals to fix their offense. Of course they would.

My advice, fellow Ranger fans? Drink heavily.

  3. I think they’re playing possum until the playoffs, except Gaborik who has pulled a disappearing act before. Torts could try leaving the lines together for at least a few games. That might be a novel idea.

Andy is right, too. That’s soooo Rangers to pick up a zero goals man as a quick offensive fix. But I think Clowe is a great player who will benefit from a change of scenery.

  4. I am thinking they got him for his defense that he plays from the bench… “He’s like a 3rd D man out there.”

“Wait, he is not out there… how could the refs and linesmen missed that?”

  5. I think this is an excellent move by the Rangers and it has my full support.

  6. Clowe will add desperatly needed emotion!,
