“Na ah hoo hoo”

Oh, is it ever Friday.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m on about 42 minutes of sleep from watching all the craziness going down in Boston all night. It’s also Friday. All those elements made for an…interesting show.

We discussed:

* The Senators beat the Capitals

* Erik Karlsson’s potential return

* The value of fights and momentum

* The race for 8th in the West and the East

* The worst Canadian bands of all-time

* And some other stuff.

  1. Does Goldsbie do anything on the site besides the podcast?

  2. Nickelback *shudder*

  3. Oh come on, Dallas has a decent farm system. They’re middle of the pack, not dead last like you make it sound. Hockey’s Future has them at 14th, just 2 behind Pittsburgh who everyone praises for farm system depth. Their AHL team has had an outstanding year and there are ten first or second year players on their roster right now, coinciding with the 6-1-0 run they’re on right now. They don’t have any superstar prospects, but they’ve got a large number of players who could develop into good second or third line players or bottom 4 defensemen.

    • I’ll give you Oleksiak as a potential top-4 defenseman. Too early to make a call on Faksa, Guptill, et al imo. We’ll see what the Sceviour types can do when they’re given some playing time in the NHL.

      I didn’t mean to sound like I was declaring the Stars’ system awful, but I think they could use a top selection more than a club like the Panthers, who have a plethora of young talents coming up. Not that Seth Jones or MacKinnon will hurt the Panthers.

      • Well they don’t have any potential top pairing defensemen or top line forwards in the system, unless someone comes out of nowhere like Jamie Benn. They do have a deep system though so saying they’re the next Flames really isn’t accurate. Four years ago they were like the Flames. Oleksiak looks good in the AHL but definitely needs more time. He looked overwhelmed when he got called up. Faksa is worrisome. It seems like he took a step backwards this year. I didn’t get a chance to actually see him though so maybe it’s not as bad as it seems. Chiasson looked right at home though before he hurt his shoulder, I think he could make a Calder run next year.

        Of course, MacKinnon, Jones or Nichushkin wouldn’t hurt but that ship has sailed, barring a trade.

      • Seriously, are you paying any attention to the Stars? They traded away all of their “scorers” and have won 6 of the last 7 – with mostly guys 23 and under! Their AHL team in Austin is the #1 team in the league, and half of the team are rookies. They do lack for prospects picked at the top of the draft, but they are far from being Calgary.

        • Look at Sens AHL/farm team … Sitting in a NHL playoff spot after playing an AHL team (Lehner, (Bishop), Silfverbeg, Zibinejad, Conacher, Wiercioch, Gryba, Borowieki, Benoit, Dziursinky) most of the year….didn’t bother to spellcheck
