Pavel Lysenkov is the NHL editor for Sovietsky Sport (Russia), and this week he was able to lock down an exclusive interview with Ilya Kovalchuk, who had a lot of interesting things to say, though nothing quite touches his line that I’ve included in the headline. I just adore the idea that those are comparables to Kovy.
You can check out the full interview here (I suggest the “Translate to English” option), but below is the highlight. Rough translations, but you get the idea.
How do you feel about the critics who say that Kovalchuk chase for big money? A judge Jeremy Roenick general accused you of stealing.
- Very quiet. Everyone has their own opinion on the matter. I stole something from someone? A normal person understands that it is said purely on emotion.
Roenick was a good hockey player. And I think in his career there were situations where it was necessary to make a decision that is best for the player and his family.
I’m not going away to the moon, not in China or Japan. A home that is home to my mom, sister, where all my friends. I’m much more comfortable in Russia.
That kills me.
