Mr. T hockey

Verbatim, from the Chicago Blackhawks’ Twitter feed last night: “I pity the fool, and I will destroy any intermission contest that tries to take what I got!”

Yes, last night Mr. T was in Chicago to shoot the puck from center during an intermission contest, and people – specifically internet folk – were seriously jazzed about this. And I mean, yeah. Look at that dude. He’s a hero.

Here’s the video in full to emphasize just how awesome he really is:

The Special Hockey International tournament is an event for the developmentally challenged – this year it took place in Kitchner, Ontario. You can check out their website here, where they describe the event as such:

The annual SHI tournament brings together teams from across North America and Europe once a year for a major gathering, attracting more than 70 teams. This tournament traditionally alternates between a Canadian and American City, but has also been hosted in London, England. The SHI tournament is not a traditional tournament, however. There are no elimination rounds, no one team is crowned champion. In our eyes they are all champions. Every team plays 4 games and every player on every team plays equally.

The goal above from the event is amazing. Just pure patience, earnest goodness and love. Hope you enjoyed it – there’s some more background on it here.

This is a beard that a hockey player on planet Earth is currently sporting, via @linushugosson. His name is Emil Kaberg, and he plays in Örebro of Sweden’s second division. Eat your heart out, Brian Wilson. This one is entirely real, and it is spectacular.

…Shout-out to Radko Gudas.

And it is magnificent.

Really cool stuff for anyone who played NHL ’94 growing up. Having recently played the game for the first time in a many years, I’m semi-obsessed with this video.

I’m not exactly sure what to say about Kaspars Daugavins shootout attempt against the Bruins, except for that it was a lot of fun to watch, and it’s worked before. And it was weird.

Yeah, what he said.

Daugavins goes toe-down on top of the puck, as Phil Bourque once did many decades ago. Watch:

He then keeps pressure on the puck, skates it near-directly down the ice, and tries the spin-o-rama move. To his credit, he more or less beats Rask. If not for the remaining toe on the left side of the net, this is one of the most talked about shootout goals of all-time. Hell, it’s still going to generate conversation.

Here it is:

You can’t kill a guy for trying something like this when it’s worked for him in the past. Here he is in the AHL, scoring on the Hamilton Bulldogs: Read the rest of this entry »

Tampa Bay Lightning v Pittsburgh Penguins

You may recall last season, when Evgeni Malkin waltzed through the Tampa Bay Lightning and scored the best goal of the 2011-12 season. Well, last night he scored another ridiculous goal, again against Tampa.

He picks up a turnover and rushes in for an opportunity, sees both d-man desperately trying to get to him before he can shoot, and decides to cut back against their overcommitment. He strafes so sharp that Lindback ends up having to dive across the net like Malkin passed it back-door to an open teammates, despite the fact that he does it all himself.

To quote Keanu Reeves: whoa.

Chicago Blackhawks v Detroit Red Wings

Patrick Kane has done this before against the Detroit Red Wings, but today’s shootout winner was different, as came on the day the Blackhawks extended their season-opening point streak to an NHL record 22 games.
