Los Angeles Kings v San Jose Sharks - Game Six

Last season during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, I put out a morning “noteworthy” column in the style of Trey Kerby’s “Things Of Note” posts on The Basketball Jones. This year I’ll be doing something similar (I think with some upgrades on my own previous attempts) using the NHL’s morning press release (“Stanley Cup of Joe,” they’re calling it), my own opinions, and some videos, .GIFs and appropriate pictures. Quoted passages are from the NHL press release.

Bruins/Rangers

Stayin’ alive

The Rangers won their fifth postseason overtime game in which they faced elimination. The last time they did so was in Game 7 of the 1994 Eastern Conference Final, when Stephane Matteau scored in double-overtime to defeat the Devils. Read the rest of this entry »

Surprising

Last night the Detroit Red Wings took down the Chicago Blackhawks for a second straight game to move ahead 2-1 in the series.

Viktor Stalberg almost died

Or at least almost ended up paralyzed. He managed to play nearly 10 minutes in the contest, which isn’t so bad considering this happened on his first shift: Read the rest of this entry »

The Bruins did it again

The Bruins won in overtime for the third time this post-season, utterly dominating the Rangers in the extra frame before Patrice Bergeron found an open Brad Marchand on a rush, who batted the puck under Lundqvist’s out-stretched pad. The NHLPA tweeted this badass picture of the celebration with Chara: Read the rest of this entry »

Only one series was in action last night in the NHL (we’re getting perilously close to that time of the year where some nights there’s none), and that was the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings Game 1. The Blackhawks beat Detroit 4-1, and it was never really all that close, despite being 1-1 in the third period for awhile. Hell, Chicago outshoot their opponent 42-21. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m am generally against the use of the word “epic,” but goodness me, that Bruins win last night feels like a good time to use it.

So that happened

The Bruins became the first team in the history of the NHL to overcome a three goal third period lead to win in Game 7. Hell, only one team in the history of the league has ever overcome a two-goal third period deficit (Montreal in 1979 against Boston). Read the rest of this entry »
