Last night the always excellent Adrian Wojnarowski reported the Raptors had reached a two-year deal, the second year a team option, with forward Austin Daye. The contract is worth $2 million.
Daye gives head coach Dwane Casey a three point threat off the bench. After a three-year stint with the Detroit Pistons, the Gonzaga alum was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in February. Coincidentally, he was part of the deal that saw Rudy Gay become a Raptor. In 55 regular season games last season Daye averaged 4.5 points and 2.2 rebounds per game between stops in Detroit and Memphis.
The 15th overall pick in the 2009 draft didn’t get much playoff time with the Grizzlies, appearing in just four games.
With the addition of Daye, Tyler Hansbrough, D.J. Augustin and Dwight Buycks in the last few weeks, the Raps roster appears set for training camp. Daye’s addition was made possible after Toronto bought out veteran big man Marcus Camby.
