If you’re up for a little nostalgia this weekend and want to dream/cry about the what ifs of Tracy McGrady never leaving Toronto for the umpteenth time, The Star’s Dave Feschuk posted this on Friday, filled with plenty of McGrady quotes like this:

“In hindsight, looking back, obviously I wish I had stayed in Toronto,” McGrady was saying in a recent telephone interview from his home in the Houston area. “There’s no doubt we could have contended for a championship. I think about that often. But if ‘if’ was a fifth, you know?”

And this:

“At the time I’m trying to make a decision whether to stay in freezing Toronto or go home to Orlando. … I just thought it was a no-brainer. As I said, if I’d been a little older and a little wiser maybe things would have been different. … It’s definitely something I always sit back and reminisce about, thinking about Toronto and what we could have been.”

Again, for the whole story with plenty more quotes, check out Feschuk’s piece. And in case you missed it, I wrote about Tracy McGrady from a Raptors fan’s perspective on the day he officially retired.

On another note, plenty of people have been asking about Julyan Stone since an issue with the big point guard’s physical caused the Raptors to look elsewhere. Well Stone (and Wright) will reportedly get training camp invites from the Raptors and there is still an open roster spot, so I suppose Stone becoming a Raptor isn’t completely out of the question.

Having said that, it’s hard to see a need for Stone, Dwight Buycks and D.J. Augustin behind Kyle Lowry.

  1. Yes it was regrettable that Tracy left town 13 years ago.

Now let us never speak of it again.

  2. Agreed. Let us never speak of it again.

Still trying to understand the DJ Agustin signing. I’m hoping he gets zero minutes next season. Well, unless we are in full tank mode. In that case, play him 30 minutes a game.

  3. Not related to the article .. I know it’s summer and all but I was disappointed that you guys aren’t covering Jonas’ performance’s with Lithuania at the European Championships. A few articles would have been good to see how he’s doing over there, especially after the monstrous performance he put in in Summer League.

Also, the url doesn’t work anymore .. ?

  6. Did Doug Smith really pretend to play? Are we talking HS or college?

He claims to have played against Jay Triano. He claims to have played PF yet won’t say what school. I took 20 minutes of my time to research all the Canadian Universities around the time Triano played and Doug Smiths name is NO where to be found. He will do or say anything to try and seem significant in today’s younger media market. He also claims to have Casey’s and the other coaches, most players and the senior management with the Raptors phone numbers and can call them anytime – its on last weekends weekend mail, go read it! I guess he trying to get us fans to feel like he is above and beyond the average person in his field for getting more accurate (first to print) news – even though it NEVER show to be proven – do you feel he is more important now! That’s what he is aiming for!
He is old, slow and clumsy and now we can call him a liar too! It’s all BS with DS
